Reading Book Bags

Reading Book Bags

I love when my students really get into reading!  They get so excited every time they get a new book to add to their reading book bag.  To help share this experience with family, I send home a reading "book bag" each weekend.  Their "book bag" is nothing but a gallon ziplock bag with the attached letter inside.  My students pick one book each week from their own familiar reads to take home.  By only picking one book, this also helps to limit the amount of books that don't return.  They love sharing their books and reading to their families.

Five Senses: A Science Exploration Unit

Ever find it hard to FIND units that focus on Social Studies and Science Standards?!
I have created a mini-unit that targets the Five Senses.  It is a hands-on exploration unit that also incorporates vocabulary and even a strip book for student reading.

Enjoy!

Here are blackline masters for a class book that I plan to make with my students.  They will write thier name in the first blank and something that they can see, hear, taste, smell, or touch in the 2nd blank and illustrate their sentence.

My first unit: A Unit of Citizenship

I am not sure about you, but I always struggle to have new activities to share with my class when it comes to citizenship.  So, I have taken advantage of my free time this summer to create one of my first units to share on our blog.  The unit is geared toward the 2nd grade SOL, but certainly can be used by others as well.  If you like it, load it, share our blog with friends and let us know what you think!  Thanks, Sarah

Here is something I made for the end of the school year. We spent a week reading fun space books and completing our own Alien Invasion packet. I have not figured out how to load the work and have it show. I am sure Jennie, Annette and I will get there! Hope you can load it. Enjoy!

Dry Erase Boards

I met with my team tonight to think ahead to September!  They shared with me some great items.  One of which was lined dry erase boards from Target for just a dollar a piece!  What a lovely treat to add to your classroom.  Check it out in your Target dollar section!

Learning the Tricks of the Trade

We are taking our time exploring the world of blogging.  The goal for the next week?  Learning how to add photos and down loadable items.  I think I need to take a "Blogging for Dummies" class.  SOON!
